Shade is king on most days in and around Las Vegas. While finding hikes that are shaded is not always obvious, you can find them! A lot relies on the time of day you hike, so that is a factor to consider.
Calico Tanks

Type: Out and Back
Elevation Gain: 406 Feet

One of my favorite hikes along the scenic loop, because of the beautiful view of Las Vegas at the end. You are hiking among the red and yellow sandstone for much of the trail, and these provide nice shade in late afternoon, as well as in the morning.
First Creek Canyon Trail

Type: Out and Back
Elevation Gain: 377 Feet

This trail only has shade in the evening or nearing sunset. There are a handful of similar canyon hikes along this stretch of peaks in Red Rock, but this is checks all of the boxes for me. In the Fall, you’ll even get to enjoy peeping the Fall Foliage.
Ash Canyon
1.7 Miles
Type: Loop
Elevation Gain: 246 Feet

Ash Canyon and the nearby Girl Scout Trail (not found on Alltrails, but has a sign at the parking lot) are great short hikes to watch sunset. When hiking out to a nice spot for sunset, the sun is already behind those Calico hills.
La Madre Springs
3.2 Miles
Type: Out and Back
Elevation Gain: 698 Feet

This is a great trail for shade in the morning hours. You’ll start out sharing a trail with White Rock Mountain Loop — a must-do on the scenic loop and then head out to the Springs area. Water runs in the Springs year-round!
