The accessibility and the lovely weather for rock climbing — both sport and bouldering — is one of the main reasons we moved to Las Vegas. We would spend days and nights climbing in Kraft Boulders on vacations prior to moving to Las Vegas, and getting to do so during the week still brings us so much joy. One of our favorite areas to climb a few intermediate/beginner boulders is in an area known as the “west cluster” on Mountain Project or the Sorange Boulder area in the Bouldering in Southern Nevada guide book. Here are a few videos of us climbing boulders in this cluster to get you motivated to check them out and start climbing outside!
In addition, the Bureau of Land Management recently released plans to increase entrance fees to the (currently) free admission areas of Calico Basin, along with other regions. The Access Fund has a great description of the concerns this raises and how you can easily write a letter sharing your voice! Please check it out and help protect access to the Calico Basin area for all and prevent crowding in the other areas of Red Rock that are less equipped to handle crowds.
