Over the last week, we have run into three different types of animals. All of which are routinely found in the same spots, and all of which do not cost money to encounter the animals. Here are where we have the best luck finding ourselves in the presence of four-legged friends.
Hemenway Park, Boulder City
We have had luck during the two times we have visited this park to see Big Horn Sheep.. AT A PLAYGROUND! There are a few grassy fields in the park where a herd of big horn sheep can be found grazing and keeping to themselves. It is a beautiful park overlooking Lake Mead, and a great park for infants. Including infant swings, a tunnel to crawl through, stairs up to slides, and a swirly thing.
This park is included in our guide to Boulder City.
First Creek Trail, Red Rock
We have had luck several times, particularly around sunset, in seeing burros on the desert section of the trail. The trail currently (fall 2022) is covered in burro poop, so I imagine they are frequent visitors to this part of Red Rock.
This is one of our favorite trails in Las Vegas.
Lone Mountain Park, Las Vegas
This space is a little more intentional for hosting animal — it is an equestrian practice facility. We saw a family with two horses riding within the park one morning, and our baby enjoyed watching them. There are also about four playgrounds scattered across the park, and a nice walking trail around Lone Mountain or to the top of Lone Mountain.
This park is one of our favorites to see a nice view of the Strip.
